Japanese Multi-Talent Shōko Nakagawa Announces Expecting Twin Boys
Shōko Nakagawa, popularly known as Shokotan, shared exciting news on Saturday: she is expecting twin boys! The announcement was made via an X (formerly Twitter) post, accompanied by an exclusive interview with Numéro Tokyo magazine.
A Family of Women and Surprising News
In her interview, Nakagawa reflected on her childhood, sharing that her family was mainly composed of women after her father passed away when she was young. She humorously mentioned, "Being from a family of women, I somehow assumed [the twins] would be girls and was thinking of dressing them up in Disney's Rapunzel dresses. But they turned out to be boys (laughs)."
Her Journey to Motherhood
Nakagawa opened up about her path to becoming a mother, revealing she froze several egg cells in her 30s. After marrying, she and her husband underwent fertility treatments. Unfortunately, she experienced two miscarriages.
"I had a miscarriage after the fifth week," she shared. She described her first attempt at pregnancy as challenging, recounting a second chemical miscarriage around the fifth or sixth week that caused her deep grief. Despite this, she continued working, though she admits she was overwhelmed with anxiety about the possibility of it happening again.
Announcing the Pregnancy
Nakagawa publicly announced her pregnancy on her birthday, May 5. She admitted she was really scared to share the news but was touched by the kindness of her fans.
"The people who came were so kind. There were times during the performance when I sat down, and the fans said, 'We're adults too, so we're happy to watch you while you're sitting down,' which made me really happy."
