Exciting News: 'Ascendance of a Bookworm' Manga to End with Volume 13
J-Novel Club has announced that the manga adaptation of Ascendance of a Bookworm will conclude with its 13th volume, scheduled to ship on September 15. This marks the end of the beloved 'biblia fantasy' light novel series, which has captivated fans worldwide.
Manga Adaptation and Serialization
The manga, illustrated by Suzuka, is serialized on TO Books' Corona EX website. The series' 12th volume was released in Japan on February 15. Amazon lists the upcoming 13th volume as the final installment.
About the Series
Suzuka is serializing the manga on TO Books' website, and the series has been ongoing since 2013. The original novels, written by Miya Kazuki and illustrated by You Shiina, began on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō platform and concluded in 2017 with 33 volumes. The series has sold over 12 million copies, including digital editions.
The story follows Myne, who negotiates with the temple to become an apprentice blue shrine maiden, allowing her to enjoy reading books despite societal restrictions. The manga captures her journey and struggles in a society structured by status.
Manga and Light Novel Releases
- The manga adaptation of Part 1 was illustrated by Suzuka.
- Part 2's manga is also by Suzuka, with Ryō Namino illustrating Part 3.
- Hikaru Katsuki is working on the adaptation of Part 4.
- J-Novel Club has been releasing these manga in English, with the ninth volume released in May 2024.
Light Novels and Anime
The light novels inspired a popular anime adaptation with three seasons:
- Season 1 aired in October 2019.
- Season 2 premiered in April 2020.
- Season 3 debuted in April 2022.
Crunchyroll streamed all seasons, including English dubs, and also released OVAs with the fifth part of the series.
Looking ahead, a new anime titled Ascendance of a Bookworm: Adopted Daughter of an Archduke will premiere in spring 2026, adapting the third part of the original novels.
