Kiyotaka Oshiyama and Ryo Oyama Win Special Award at Fujimoto Awards
Director, producer, and animator Kiyotaka Oshiyama alongside producer and planner Ryo Oyama received a special honor at the 44th annual Fujimoto Awards announced by Japan's Eiga Engeki Bunka Kyōkai (Film Theater Culture Association) on Monday.

About the Fujimoto Awards
The Fujimoto Awards, named after Sanezumi Fujimoto, a producer known for the Shachō and Wakadaishō series, recognize the work of film producers who contribute to popular and entertaining films. Last year, the producers of the live-action film Godzilla Minus One received the general award, while Keisuke Naitō took home the rookie award for his work on the anime film Kitarō Tanjō: Gegege no Nazo.
Achievements of Look Back
The anime film Look Back has garnered significant attention, winning the Animation of the Year award at this year's Tokyo Anime Award Festival (TAAF). In addition, Oshiyama, along with animator Toshiyuki Inoue and sound director Eriko Kimura, received the Kōji Fukiya Award at the Niigata International Animation Film Festival.
The film has also been nominated for the Excellent Animation award at the 48th annual Japan Academy Film Prizes.
Box Office Performance
Released in Japan in June 2024, Look Back achieved impressive box office results, ranking #2 in ticket sales and #1 in weekend earnings, bringing in ¥227 million (around $1.49 million USD) from 135,000 ticket sales in its opening weekend.
The film was screened in North America by GKIDS on October 4, followed by broader screenings on October 6 and 7, earning approximately $688,253 at the U.S. box office during its opening weekend.
Cast Information
The film features Yūmi Kawai as Fujino, a fourth grader who contributes comic strips to the school newspaper, and Mizuki Yoshida as Kyomoto, Fujino's classmate known for skipping school.
Source Material
Adapted from a one-shot manga by Tatsuki Fujimoto, known for Chainsaw Man, the manga debuted on Shueisha's Shonen Jump+ in July 2021, quickly gaining traction with over 2.5 million views on its first day. English versions were released by both Viz Media and MANGA Plus, with print editions following in September 2022.
The manga was recognized with the Rakuten Kobo E-book Awards in May 2023, and consistently ranked high in manga awards, including Takarajimasha's guidebook, Kono Manga ga Sugoi! I
