A live-action adaptation of Cinderella Closet, the popular manga by Wakana Yanai, is set to debut this July on TBS’s Drama Stream late-night programming block. The series promises to bring Yanai’s heartfelt story of transformation and romance to television audiences.
What Is Cinderella Closet About?
The manga, published in English by Seven Seas, follows the journey of Haruka—an ordinary country girl who moves to Tokyo for college and quietly admires her coworker, Kurotaki. Lacking confidence, Haruka’s world changes when she meets Hikaru, a sharp and stylish "fairy godmother," who helps her transform in more ways than one.

Haruka is a "plain jane" who left the countryside to start her college life in Tokyo. She's secretly in love with Kurotaki, a coworker at her part-time job, but she lacks the self-confidence to confess her feelings to him. Then she meets Hikaru, a glamorous but sharp-tongued fashionista who begrudgingly agrees to play "fairy godmother" for Haruka. However, there's more to Hikaru than meets the eye!
