Dark Horse announced on Wednesday that it has officially licensed Shin'ichi Sakamoto's manga Innocent Rouge. This new release is an omnibus volume that combines three volumes into one comprehensive edition.
Story Overview
Innocent Rouge is a sequel to Sakamoto's earlier series, Innocent. The narrative focuses on:
Charles-Henri: The eldest brother in the Sanson family of executioners.
Marie-Joseph: His sister, who enjoys a liberated life in Versailles.
The plot thickens when Marie-Joseph's love, Alain, is tragically murdered by aristocrats.
Publication History
Innocent was launched in 2013 and transitioned to Innocent Rouge in 2015 when it moved from Weekly Young Jump to Grand Jump.
The series concluded in January 2020, with Shueisha publishing nine compiled volumes of the original Innocent manga. The last of the Innocent Rouge volumes was released in February 2020.
Cultural Impact
The manga inspired a stage musical that took place in Tokyo and Paris in late 2019 and early 2020.
Innocent was nominated for the 18th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize and the Manga Taisho Awards in 2014 and 2015, respectively.
It received an Excellence Award at the 24th Japan Media Arts Festival Awards in 2021.
