Japanese entertainment news site Cinema Today has reported a stunning box office success for Detective Conan: One-eyed Flashback (Japanese title: Meitantei Conan: Sekigan no Flashback), the 28th film in the popular Detective Conan (known as Case Closed) series.
Record-Breaking Opening Weekend
- The movie sold 2,314,690 tickets in its first three days.
- It earned 3,438,626,700 yen (approximately US$24.15 million) in the same period.
Daily Breakdown:
- Friday: 697,355 tickets; 1,058,422,300 yen (about US$7.43 million)
- Saturday: 835,908 tickets; 1,246,314,200 yen (about US$8.75 million)
- Sunday: 781,427 tickets; 1,133,870,200 yen (about US$7.96 million)
This sets a new opening weekend record for the franchise.
Comparing with the Previous Film
The previous entry, Case Closed: The Million-dollar Pentagram, earned 960 million yen (around US$6.26 million) on its opening day last April. It sold 2,274,333 tickets and earned 3,352,494,500 yen (about US$21.7 million) in its opening weekend, which was the previous franchise record.
The Million-dollar Pentagram remains the highest-grossing film in the franchise, having earned 15.8 billion yen (about US$102 million) by the end of 2024, surpassing 2023's Detective Conan: Kurogane no Submarine which earned 13.83 billion yen (US$88.23 million).
