The 32nd issue of Shueisha's Young Jump magazine announced this Thursday that Satoru Noda's DOGSRED, an ice hockey manga, will go on hiatus. The break is to allow Noda to prepare for the release of the manga's upcoming sixth compiled book volume, which Shueisha will publish on August 19.
The manga will return in the combined 36th and 37th issue on August 7.
About the Manga
Viz Media is releasing DOGSRED in English, describing it as follows:
Rou once chased figure-skating glory. Now he chases redemption in the ice hockey rink.
After winning the national championship, 15-year-old figure skater Rou Shirakawa was on his way to the Olympics. But with his mother's tragic death on his mind, he threw it all away in an outburst of rage. Banned from figure skating, he and his sister move to Hokkaido. When he meets some local kids at the skating pond, they convince him to be a stand-in player for their soon-to-be-disbanded hockey team. The team has never won a game, and they're up against the local champs—but if they've got to go down, they want to score at least one goal before it's all over. Rou hasn't got a clue how to play ice hockey, but he sure knows how to skate!
Background and History
Noda launched DOGSRED in Weekly Young Jump in July 2023. This manga is a relaunch of his earlier ice hockey series, Supinamarada!, which was initially announced to debut in spring 2023. The magazine described DOGSRED as a recreation, and interestingly, both series feature characters with jersey number 66.
DOGSRED was Noda's debut work before he gained fame with Golden Kamuy. He started Golden Kamuy in 2014 in Young Jump and concluded it in April 2022. The original DOGSRED was published in six volumes by Shueisha between 2011 and 2012.
