About the Film
Eisen Flügel is based on a novel series with original story by Gen Urobuchi. The film is directed by Seiji Mizushima at A-1 Pictures, with Daizen Komatsuda as the director. The character designs are adapted from Takashi Takeuchi of TYPE-MOON, with original drafts by Kiminori Itō.
The screenplay is written by Yukie Sugawara and Mizushima, while Yuki Kajiura composes the music. Mechanical designs are handled by Kanetake Ebikawa, Takayuki Yanase, and Fumihiro Katagai, with Tatsuya Yoshikawa as the dragon designer. Art direction is by Kusanagi, and Seiichi Shirato oversees research.
Behind the Scenes
Gen Urobuchi shared a humorous story about the origins of Eisen Flügel:
"Once upon a time, there was an eroge company called NITRO PLUS. A chance offer for a theatrical animation project fell into their laps, and the scriptwriter proposed a story about a competition in a faraway world between a dragon and a jet to determine the true ruler of the skies. The company president wanted it turned into a one-episode anime, so the scriptwriter hurried to add more content."
"Years later, the idea was revived and expanded into a two-volume novel. Eventually, Aniplex offered the chance to turn it into a film, and after nearly twenty years, Eisen Flügel is finally becoming the movie it was always meant to be."
The film was first announced at Aniplex Online Fest 2022. The original novels, illustrated by Higashiguchi Chūō, were published in 2009 by Gagaga Bunko.
