Webtoon Takes Action Against Piracy Sites
EnryuManga Removes WEBTOON Content
A popular unauthorized webcomic hosting site, EnryuManga, has officially taken down all content related to WEBTOON after receiving a cease-and-desist notice from WEBTOON Entertainment.
In a statement posted on its homepage, EnryuManga explained that it complied with the legal request to ensure the safety of its team members and to follow the most mature course of action. The site encouraged users to support official platforms such as WEBTOON and Wattpad. They also announced plans to start hosting titles from Kakao in the future.
WEBTOON's Anti-Piracy Efforts
WEBTOON Entertainment highlighted that this takedown is part of a broader anti-piracy strategy involving legal enforcement and advanced technology. Their AI-powered system, Toon Radar, actively detects and delays the spread of pirated content.
- Since its deployment, Toon Radar has contributed to a 93% takedown rate of illegal comic-hosting sites in South Korea.
- Globally, it has achieved a 76% success rate between 2017 and June 2024.
Ongoing Fight Against Illegal Content
The removal of EnryuManga marks another step in WEBTOON's continuous effort to protect creators' rights. The company remains committed to exploring technological solutions to combat piracy across different markets.
Recently, another notable pirate site, Reaper Scans, also shut down after receiving a cease-and-desist letter from Kakao Entertainment, the parent company of Tapas.
