Lotte Entertainment has announced that the live-action Omniscient Reader film will premiere in Korean theaters on July 23. Alongside the announcement, a main poster and an official trailer were released on June 16.
About the Movie
The film adapts the popular webtoon of the same name, which tells the story of Dok-ja Kim, the only person who has read a fantasy web novel for over a decade. When the fictional world from the novel starts mixing with reality, Kim teams up with the novel’s hero, Joong-hyuk Yoo, to save a world on the verge of destruction.
Cast and Crew
- Hyo-seop Ahn as Dok-ja Kim
- Min-ho Lee as Joong-hyuk Yoo

- Directed by Byung-woo Kim, known for The Terror Live and Concrete Utopia

The trailer begins with Kim’s reflection: “The story that was everything to me has become reality,” then quickly transitions into chaotic scenes. Viewers see intense action sequences, including battles on a subway and encounters with goblin-like beings. The film showcases imaginative world-building, featuring unique weapons such as shields and character-specific threads.
The ending teases a twist: instead of following the webtoon’s original ending, Dok-ja Kim aims for a new outcome where everyone survives.
About the Webtoon
Created by singNsong (author), Sleepy-C (artist), and UMI (adaptor), Omniscient Reader is available in English on WEBTOON. It is also being released in print by Yen Press's Ize Press imprint, which you can find here.
Future Adaptations
In July 2024, Crunchyroll announced that Omniscient Reader will also be adapted into a television anime series. The webtoon is based on a web novel by singNsong. Ize Press will begin releasing the novel in print starting this July.
