Final Fantasy XVI Now Available on Xbox Platforms

Square Enix announced during the Xbox Games Showcase livestream on Sunday that Final Fantasy XVI is now officially released for Xbox X|S, Xbox PC, and Xbox Cloud gaming.

Release Timeline:

• Originally launched in June 2023 for PlayStation 5 as a PlayStation exclusive until December 31, 2023.
• Followed by the PC release on September 17, available via Steam and the Epic Games Store.

About the Game

Square Enix describes Final Fantasy XVI as:

"An epic dark fantasy world where the fate of the land is decided by the mighty Eikons and the Dominants who wield them. This is the tale of Clive Rosfield, a warrior granted the title “First Shield of Rosaria” and sworn to protect his younger brother Joshua, the dominant of the Phoenix. Before long, Clive will be caught up in a great tragedy and swear revenge on the Dark Eikon Ifrit, a mysterious entity that brings calamity in its wake."

Creative Team and Features

• Developed by Square Enix's Creative Business Unit III.
• Produced by Naoki Yoshida (also known for Final Fantasy XIV).
• Directed by Hiroshi Takai.
• The game's theme song, "Tsuki Wo Miteita – Moongazing," is performed by Kenshi Yonezu.
• The game has received multiple DLCs, including:
  • "Echoes of the Fallen" (released December 2023)
  • "The Rising Tide" (debuted on April 18, 2024)

Unique Adaptations

In addition to the game, Final Fantasy XVI has been adapted into a stage musical performed by the renowned all-female Takarazuka Revue. This musical ran at:

• Takarazuka Grand Theater from May 17 to June 23, 2024.
• Tokyo Takarazuka Theatre from July 13 to August 25, 2024.

The production starred Toa Serika and Sakura Haruno.
