Second Season of Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Announced for January 2026

Crunchyroll announced on Saturday that the highly anticipated Frieren: Beyond Journey's End (originally Sōsō no Frieren) manga will return with a second season of its anime adaptation in January 2026. Fans in India will be able to stream the new episodes as they air in Japan.
What to Expect from the New Season
- The second season is set to premiere in January 2026.
- The series will continue to follow the story of Frieren, an elf mage, as she embarks on new adventures and reflects on her long life.
- The anime will be animated by Madhouse, returning for this season.
Changes in the Production Team
- Tomoya Kitagawa takes over as director, having previously directed episodes 2, 8, and 25 of the first season.
- Keiichirō Saitō, the first season director, will support in a new role.
- Daiki Harashina, who directed episode 3, is now the assistant director.
- Tomohiro Suzuki returns for series composition.
- New character designers include Takasemaru, Keisuke Kojima, and Yuri Fujinaka, replacing Reiko Nagasawa.
- The soundtrack will be composed again by Evan Call.
About the First Season
- Premiered with a two-hour special on September 29, 2023, making history as the first TV anime to debut during NTV's "Kinyō Roadshow," a block usually reserved for movies.
- The series aired in two cours (quarters of a year) until March 2024.
- It was streamed in India by Crunchyroll, which also added English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu dubs in October 2023.
The Manga and Its Success
- The manga, launched by Yamada and Abe in April 2020 via Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday, has received numerous awards, including:
- The Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize (2021)
- The Manga Taisho Award (2021)
- It was also nominated for the Kodansha Manga Awards and included in the American Library Association's top 10 list of 2022 graphic novels for adults.
Story Overview
