Makimayo to Launch Manga Adaptation of Chiaki Kisaki's Novel

The June issue of Kadokawa's Monthly Comic Gene revealed that manga creator Makimayo will debut a manga adaptation of Chiaki Kisaki's novel DOPE Mayaku Torishimari-bu Tokusōka (also known as DOPE Narcotics Control Department Special Investigations). The manga is set to be published in the magazine's next issue on July 15.

About the Novel
Set in a near-future Japan plagued by a widespread drug called "Dope", the story follows Yūto Saiki, a new officer in the government’s narcotics agency. Saiki, who lost his mother to Dope as a child, joins the agency’s secretive Special Investigations unit. Alongside his partner Teppei Jinnai, they work together to solve crimes related to the drug.
Chiaki Kisaki published the original novel in August 2022, with illustrations by Tomio Ogata. The story is inspiring an upcoming live-action TV series, set to premiere on TBS on July 4.
About Chiaki Kisaki and Other Works
Kisaki also co-authored Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens with Hako Ichiiro. Launched in 2014, this light novel series concluded in May 2024 with its 14th volume. The series won the 20th Dengeki Novel Awards and even has a collaboration novel with Ryohgo Narita's Durarara!!.
The novels received a TV anime adaptation in 2018. Streaming platforms like Crunchyroll and Funimation brought the series to global audiences with simulcast and English dubbed versions.
