About the Series
'Hell Mode' is based on the light novel series written by Hamuo and illustrated by Mo. The story follows Kenichi Yamada, an avid gamer who, after his favorite online game shuts down, discovers an untitled game promising endless challenges. Choosing the hardest difficulty — 'Hell Mode' — he is reincarnated in a fantasy world as a serf named Allen. With no guides or online help, he must navigate this new world and uncover its secrets.
"Level up even while offline?! That’s not a game on ‘easy mode’—that’s just an AFK game!"
The story was first launched on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website in November 2019 and has been ongoing since. The series was later published in print by Earth Star Entertainment starting July 2020, and the manga adaptation by Tetta began serialization in October 2020.
