July Anime Premieres and Film Festivals in New York
The Japan Society recently announced exciting events for anime fans in North America, featuring the premieres of both animated and live-action films.

- North American Theatrical Premiere of Gridman Universe (anime film)
- World Premiere of Kowloon Generic Romance (live-action film adaptation)
- Part of the JAPAN CUTS: Festival of New Japanese Film in New York, held from July 10 to 20.

- Gridman Universe will premiere on July 20 at 12:30 p.m.
- Kowloon Generic Romance will have its world premiere on July 13 at 12:30 p.m.
About Gridman Universe
Gridman Universe is a crossover film blending SSSS.GRIDMAN and SSSS.DYNAZENON. It premiered in Japan in March 2023, screening in 151 theaters and earning the highest per-screen revenue during its opening weekend. The film features familiar cast members from the original series.
Directed by Akira Amemiya at Studio Trigger, the film includes contributions from notable staff like Keiichi Hasegawa (script), Masaru Sakamoto (character design), and Shiro Sagisu (music).

About Kowloon Generic Romance
The live-action adaptation of Jun Mayuzuki’s manga will debut in Japan this August. The story is set in Kowloon Walled City, a gritty, nostalgic district where past, present, and future collide.
Main Cast:
- Riho Yoshioka as Reiko Kujirai
- Kōshi Mizukami as Hajime Kudō
- Additional cast includes Ryō Ryūsei, Shuntarō Yanagi, Minami Umezawa, and more.
The manga has been licensed in English by Yen Press and is described as:
Welcome to Kowloon Walled City: a dystopian town where nostalgia and the future intersect. The story follows Reiko Kujirai, a real estate agent, as love blossoms amid its extraordinary surroundings.
Originally launched in Weekly Young Jump in November 2019, the manga's anime adaptation began airing on April 5. Crunchyroll is streaming the series with an English dub.
