Brilliant Healer's New Life in the Shadows
Joe Yoshizaki, known for The Brilliant Healer's New Life in the Shadows, is directing the upcoming season at studio Gonzo. Notably, Makaria joins the production team again for this new installment.
What's New?
- The second season has been officially titled Kakuriyo Yadomeshi Ni (Kakuriyo -Bed & Breakfast for Spirits- II or Afterlife Inn Cooking II).
- The staff also sees exciting updates:
- Tomoko Konparu (known for NANA and Kimi ni Todoke) returns to oversee and write scripts.
- Hidemi Katsura joins as the new character designer.
- Noriyo Gōroku is now responsible for art setting and initial color-checking.
- Yi Nong Chen oversees compositing of the photography.
- The sound is directed by Satoshi Motoyama.
- Returning composer Takurō Iga (from Oshi no Ko and WATATEN!) team up with Flying Dog to score the series.
Premiere Details
- The new season is set to premiere this fall.
- The first season aired in April 2018 and was streamed by Crunchyroll as it aired in Japan.
- Funimation provided an English dub and released the series on home video in 2019.
Series Synopsis
Heavily rooted in Japanese folklore, the story follows Aoi, a college girl with the ability to see spirits, inherited from her late grandfather. A skilled cook, she finds herself entangled with spirits when she attempts to feed agricultural spirits. Her life takes a turn when a god and inn master, claiming she owes her grandfather’s debts, attempts to make her his bride. However, Aoi refuses and vows instead to pay off her grandfather's debts by working at the inn.
Origin and Related Works
- The light novel, launched by Kadokawa's Fujimi L Bunko imprint in 2015, has 12 volumes as of March 2022.
- A manga adaptation by Toba started in Kodansha's Monthly Shonen Sirius magazine in January 2023; Kodansha published the eighth volume on April 30.
- An ongoing manga by Waco Ioka, published by Kadokawa, was launched in 2016 in B's-LOG COMIC. Viz Media licenses this manga, which they publish under the same title, with the 10th volume shipped in March 2023.
