Manga artist-turned-politician Ken Akamatsu recently marked the 22nd anniversary of his beloved manga series Negima! Magister Negi Magi with a special illustration. This celebration took place on February 26, a date that holds significant meaning for both Akamatsu and his fans.

A Lasting Impact
In a heartfelt message on social media, Akamatsu reflected on the series' lasting impact:
"22 years ago today, on February 26, 2003, the first chapter of Negima! Magister Negi Magi ran in Weekly Shōnen Magazine. Many people supported me during its nine years of serialization, and I still often hear, 'I used to read your manga!' I'm very grateful! 😂"
This sentiment resonates with fans who continue to cherish the series, proving its enduring legacy.
Series Journey
The journey of Negima! began in 2003 and concluded in 2012. Following its success, Akamatsu launched a sequel series, UQ Holder!, which began serialization in August 2013 and later transitioned to Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine in 2016.
Akamatsu's manga career kicked off in 1993 with a one-shot titled Hito Natsu no Kids Game. His first long-running series, A.I. Love You, premiered in 1994. Over the years, he has created several popular titles, including Love Hina, Negima!, and UQ Holder!.
Political Career
In 2022, after nearly two decades as a manga artist, Akamatsu transitioned into politics by winning a seat in Japan's House of Councillors. His political journey continued with his appointment in November 2024 as Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, as well as Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Reconstruction.
