Live-Action Adaptation of 5 Centimeters Per Second Announced for October 10 Release
A new teaser visual has just been revealed for the upcoming live-action movie adaptation of Makoto Shinkai's beloved anime film, 5 Centimeters Per Second. The film is set to open in Japanese theaters on October 10.
The visual's tagline reads:"How fast do I have to live so I can see you again?"

Star: Hokuto Matsumura (SixTONES) as Sōta Munakata, a character from Suzume.
Production: Spoon is producing, with TOHO handling distribution.
Direction & Screenplay: Yoshiyuki Okuyama is directing, and Ayako Suzuki is writing the script.
Background & Background of the Original Anime
5 Centimeters Per Second originally premiered in Japan in 2007. The film is divided into three segments, exploring the life of Tono Takaki across different stages.
Anime Story: Focuses on Takaki's evolving connection and feelings for Shinohara Akari, whom he once befriended in elementary school.
The first segment depicts Takaki's middle school years as he attempts to meet Akari one last time before she moves away.
The second part follows Takaki in high school, still thinking about Akari while being oblivious to Kanae's love for him.
The third segment shows him as an adult, struggling with relationships amid memories of Akari.

The anime was initially released on DVD by Crunchyroll in 2011, with a later reissue by Discotek.
GKIDS acquired the North American rights in 2022, and the film was released on Blu-ray with Shout! Factory.
