Disney+ Japan Unveils New Trailer for Gannibal Season 2

The official YouTube channel of Disney+ Japan recently released an exciting new video for the highly anticipated second live-action season of Gannibal, a horror manga by Masaaki Ninomiya. The trailer, unveiled on Thursday, features Yuri Tsunematsu in the role of a younger Gin Gotō and showcases flashback scenes critical to the storyline.

Key Character: Gin Gotō

Gin Gotō is a pivotal figure in Gannibal. The narrative kicks off with the discovery of her corpse, prompting protagonist Daigo Agawa to investigate peculiar teeth marks found on her body. In the first season, the character is portrayed by Mitsuko Baishō, who depicts an older Gin Gotō before her demise. Tsunematsu's portrayal will delve into Gin's earlier life, highlighting her rise to matriarch of the Gotō family.

Returning Cast and Crew

The second season promises to bring back the talented cast and crew from the first:

• Yuuya Yagira as Daigo Agawa
• Show Kasamatsu as Keisuke Gotō, the future head of the Gotō family
• Riho Yoshioka as Yuki Agawa, Daigo's wife

The series is directed again by Shinzo Katayama, with scripts penned by Takamasa Ōe. Teruhisa Yamamoto continues as the producer for this new season, which will exclusively premiere on Disney+ Japan.

Record-Breaking First Season

The first season of Gannibal premiered in December 2022, featuring seven gripping episodes. According to Variety, it became the most-watched locally produced original series on Disney+ Japan, measured by hours streamed.

Manga Availability

The manga version of Gannibal has also gained attention in North America. Ablaze licensed the manga, releasing the first compiled volume on July 2, with the third volume set to ship on December 24. Here's a brief overview of the Gannibal story:

• Kickstarter Success: In October 2023, Ablaze launched a Kickstarter campaign for a limited-edition hardcover box set containing all 13 volumes. The campaign achieved its funding goal within hours of launch.

• Publication Details: Ninomiya began the Gannibal manga in Weekly Manga Goraku in October 2018 and concluded it by November 2021. The 13th and final volume was released in Japan in February 2022.
