Korean Box Office Update: 'Omniscient Reader' Live-Action Film

Film Sells 627,886 Tickets in First 5 Days, Earning Over US$4.5 Million

According to the Korean film-focused news site MOVIST, the live-action adaptation of the popular web novel and webtoon Omniscient Reader: The Prophecy opened at No. 1 at the Korean box office. Despite this top spot, its overall performance has been considered underwhelming.

Weekend sales: 427,358 tickets from Friday to Sunday

The film was released in Korea on July 23 and has garnered a mixed reception from both longtime fans and general audiences.

International Release

The movie is set to open in North American theaters on August 1.

Cast Highlights

Hyo-seop Ahn stars as the protagonist Dok-ja Kim.
The cast also includes Min-ho Lee, Nana, Seung-ho Shin, Soo-bin Chae, and Ji-Soo from Black Pink.

Comparison with Other Webtoon Adaptations

Another webtoon-based live-action film, My Daughter is a Zombie, which had limited pre-release screenings before its wide release on July 30, debuted at No. 10. It sold 29,892 tickets and earned around US$211,400 as of Sunday.
