Live-Action Adaptation of 5 Centimeters Per Second: New Visuals and Cast Announced
Mitsuki Takahata stars in the upcoming live-action film of Makoto Shinkai's beloved anime, 5 Centimeters Per Second. The film is set to hit theaters on October 10.

Cast Highlights
- Mitsuki Takahata (known for Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku and 1122: For a Happy Marriage) plays the heroine Akari Shinohara as an adult.

The film is produced by Spoon and distributed by TOHO. Director Yoshiyuki Okuyama is at the helm, with Ayako Suzuki writing the screenplay and Ayatake Ezaki composing the music.
About the Original Anime
5 Centimeters Per Second originally premiered in Japan in 2007. The story follows Takaki Tono across three stages of his life, exploring his fading connection with a girl he loved, Akari Shinohara.
- Part 1: Middle school years, where Takaki tries to meet Akari one last time.
- Part 2: High school, focusing on Takaki's feelings and the girl Kanae who loves him.
- Part 3: Adulthood, depicting his struggles with relationships and work.
The anime was released on DVD by Crunchyroll in 2011, reissued by Discotek with new cover art, and later licensed by GKIDS in 2022, which released it on Blu-ray through Shout! Factory.
Creative Team
Makoto Shinkai directed, wrote, and storyboarded the anime, also serving as producer, sound director, and art director. The music was composed by Tenmon.
