A Surprise at San Diego Comic-Con

During his retrospective panel titled "Kia Asamiya: 40 Years of Imagination and Visions" at San Diego Comic-Con International, Asamiya was unexpectedly presented with the Inkpot Award. The moment was a highlight of the event, and he shared a humorous remark in his acceptance speech, joking that since he received two awards in as many days, it might mean he's destined to die tomorrow.

Celebrating a Career of Creativity

Kia Asamiya is celebrated for his diverse body of work, including iconic manga such as:

• Silent Möbius
• Steam Detectives
• Compiler
• Junk: Record of the Last Hero

He has also contributed character designs for the anime Martian Successor Nadesico, which he later adapted into a manga, and even turned the Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace film into a manga. Additionally, he authored and illustrated Batman: The Child of Dreams. Many of his manga have been successfully adapted into anime.

Just a day before the Comic-Con award, Asamiya learned that he had received the Best Artist award at the Japan Science Fiction Convention for the second consecutive year. This recognition underscores his significant influence and talent in the world of manga and anime.
