What’s the Story About?

Manga UP! Global recently announced the addition of Sōta Takahata's manga adaptation of Ezogingitune's light novels. The story, titled Cast-off Magic Tool Researcher is Actually an S-rank Mage, follows Werner, a talented magic tool researcher at the Empire's top institution, the Sage's Academy.

Plot Highlights:

• Werner is expelled from the Academy by a jealous chancellor eager to profit from his inventions.
• Without Werner, the Academy struggles, unable to develop new magic tools because his theories are too advanced.
• Despite setbacks, Werner attracts attention from various characters, including a maiden dragon and a princess.
• Equipped with powerful spells and magic tools, Werner aims to enjoy a relaxed life of research, surrounded by adorable apprentices.

Publication Details

• The manga was launched by Square Enix on Manga UP! in November 2023.
• Zenji Yotsuya is credited with the story composition.
• The first compiled volume was released in Japan in September 2024, with the second volume scheduled for release on September 5.

Origin of the Series

Ezogingitune originally launched the story on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website in January 2021. The series is still ongoing. The novel series is published in print by SB Creative, with illustrations by Tomozero. The fourth volume was published in February 2023.
