About the Short
The story focuses on the theme of "young carers" and connections with others. It tells the tale of Yūma, an elementary school student, who learns about young carers through his friend Kenta, who helps take care of his family and their household.
In Japan, a "young carer" is defined as a child or young person who provides excessive care for family members or manages household responsibilities. This can adversely affect their school life and reduce their time for play or leisure, making it a growing social concern.
This project is part of the Cabinet Office's local Loneliness and Isolation Countermeasures Public-Private Partnership Platform Promotion Project. Nakano Ward was chosen as a model organization for the initiative in 2024.
Studios MAPPA and Contrail hope the short will encourage viewers to open up about their own situations.
