A Long-Awaited Revival
This new installment marks the first Fatal Fury game in over two decades, initially announced during the EVO fighting game tournament in 2022.
Fatal Fury, known as Garō Densetsu in Japan, is one of SNK's most iconic fighting franchises. It introduced legendary characters like Terry Bogard, Andy Bogard, Mai Shiranui, Blue Mary, and Geese Howard. The original Fatal Fury: King of Fighters premiered in arcade halls in 1991, with Garou: Mark of the Wolves being the last release in 1999.
SNK’s crossover franchise The King of Fighters began by blending characters from Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting, maintaining those characters as staples ever since.
Legacy in Anime
The series inspired several animated works:
- Fatal Fury: Legend of the Hungry Wolf OVA (1992)
- Fatal Fury 2: The New Battle OVA (1993)
- Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture (1994)
All three featured Obari’s character designs, with Ōbari directing the last film. These anime titles have been officially released by Discotek Media.
