Record-Breaking Opening for My Daughter is a Zombie in Korea
A WEBTOON-based comedy film has made a remarkable debut at the Korean box office!
My Daughter is a Zombie, a comedy inspired by the popular WEBTOON created by Yoon-chang Lee, opened with an impressive 430,000 admissions on its first day this past Wednesday. This marks the best opening day of the year so far in Korea.
How does it compare?
- It beat the previous record held by Extreme Job (360,000 admissions in 2019), which was the highest for a Korean comedy film.
- It also outperformed this year's blockbuster Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, which had 423,000 admissions on its first day in Korea back in May.
The story behind the film
Based on the WEBTOON of the same name, the movie follows Jung-hwan (played by Jung-suk Cho), a father who travels to the seaside village of Eunbong-ri. His goal? To protect his daughter Soo-ah (Yu-ri Choi), who has become the last remaining zombie in the world.
Plot summary:
One year after a massive zombie attack that claimed hundreds of thousands of lives, South Korea is declared zombie-free. But Jung-hwan keeps a secret: his daughter is still a zombie. As her cravings and violent tendencies lessen, there’s hope she might live a normal life. The question is, how long can he keep her secret?
