N LITE Announces New Animated Film Inspired by Mozambican Folklore
Multimedia company N LITE revealed exciting news on Wednesday: they are working on a new animated film titled Chiure: Child of the Sea. This project is being developed at their studio in Japan, in collaboration with South African animation studio LUCAN.

A Story Rooted in Mozambican Folklore
The film Chiure: Child of the Sea tells the story of Chiure, a young girl who fights to protect her coastal community. She awakens a centuries-old connection to the ocean and an ancient water god sleeping beneath the earth, inspired by traditional Mozambican legends.

This project was announced in honor of Mozambique's 50th Independence Day on June 25.
About N LITE
Founded by Christiano Malik Terry, N LITE is a company led alongside notable figures like Shin Koyamada and Shigeru Igari. They are known for producing the MFINDA film, part of their AFRIME (afro-anime) initiative, which aims to showcase black and indigenous stories through hand-drawn 2D animation.
Collaborations and Future Projects
N LITE is partnering with JuVee Productions (co-founded by Viola Davis and Julius Tennon) and working with industry veterans like Genco, Inc. and GKIDS. They are also collaborating with renowned producers such as Masao Maruyama of MAPPA and director Gisaburō Sugii.
Additionally, N LITE is teaming up with GONZO and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse co-director Peter Ramsey to develop two new projects: a noir thriller called Ripper and a sci-fi adventure series titled Hotaru.
A Mission to Share Diverse Stories
N LITE aims to bring black and indigenous narratives to a global audience, focusing on hand-drawn animation and projects based on popular anime and manga IPs. Their upcoming works include both films and television series, emphasizing cultural storytelling.
