Netflix Expands Its Library
Netflix has recently welcomed two notable live-action adaptations:
- The 2006 live-action series based on Tomoko Ninomiya's manga Nodame Cantabile.
- Both seasons of Dr. Coto's Clinic, adapted from Takatoshi Yamada's Dr. Koto Shinryōjo.
- Additionally, the live-action series Inheritance Detective, based on Yumie Nishiogi and Yō Ikuta's Sōzoku Tantei (also known as The Hyena Has Seven Lives), is now available.
Nodame Cantabile Synopsis

Noda Megumi, also known as Nodame, is a quirky piano student at Momogaoka School of Music. She meets Chiaki Shin'ichi, a focused piano student with dreams of becoming a conductor. As they navigate their musical journey, they form bonds with various eccentric musicians.
Ninomiya's manga ran from 2001 to 2009 in Kiss, resulting in 23 compiled volumes published by Kodansha. Del Rey released 16 volumes in North America before Kodansha USA Publishing later released the complete series digitally in English.
Nodame Cantabile has inspired:
- Three television anime adaptations.
- Several live-action series and films.
Dr. Coto's Clinic Summary
Crunchyroll previously streamed the Dr. Coto's Clinic series, which follows:
A young physician, Kensuke Goto, who arrives at a remote island lacking medical resources. As he strives to earn the trust of the island's residents, he highlights the dignity of human life while tackling health challenges.
Originally launched in 2000 in Weekly Young Sunday, the manga has been on hiatus since 2010 due to health issues experienced by Yamada. In November 2023, Shogakukan published the 26th compiled volume digitally.
A live-action film based on the series opened in Japan in December 2022.
Inheritance Detective Overview
The live-action series Inheritance Detective premiered on January 25, focusing on character Haie, who specializes in resolving estate disputes. The Sōzoku Tantei manga began publishing in Kodansha's Evening magazine in December 2020.
