New Game Announcement: Once Upon a Katamari Launches October 24
Exciting news for fans of the Katamari Damacy franchise! During the Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase on Thursday, Bandai Namco Entertainment revealed a brand-new game titled Once Upon a Katamari. Mark your calendars—this colorful and quirky game hits the Nintendo Switch on October 24.
Available on Multiple Platforms
The game isn't just coming to Nintendo Switch. It will also be released on:
- PlayStation 5
- Xbox Series X|S
- PC via Steam
All on the same day, making it accessible to a wide audience of gamers.
What to Expect
Once Upon a Katamari features new stages and songs, while maintaining the classic gameplay fans love. The story kicks off after the King of All Cosmos accidentally destroys Earth and stars again. Now, The Prince must time travel to restore the starry sky.
Players can enjoy customization options for The Prince and his 68 cousins, choosing different colors and facial features.
New Multiplayer Mode
A fresh addition is the 4-player competitive multiplayer mode called "KatamariBall". In this mode, players compete to roll the biggest balls, supporting both online and offline play.
Special Edition
For enthusiasts, there's the Deluxe King of All Sounds edition, which includes 60 songs and 26 costumes from previous games in the series.
A Legacy of Fun
Bandai Namco's journey with Katamari Damacy began in 2004 with the release of the original game for PlayStation 2. Since then, the franchise has expanded across various platforms, inspiring numerous sequels and spin-offs, including the mobile game Amazing Katamari Damacy launched in December 2017.
In 2018, Katamari Damacy Reroll, an HD remaster of the original, was released on Switch and PC, followed by versions on PS4 and Xbox One in 2020. The latest HD version, We Love Katamari Reroll+ Royal Reverie, debuted in June 2023 across multiple platforms.
Additionally, the game Katamari Damacy Rolling LIVE was launched for smartphones in April.
