In the first three quarters of this fiscal year, Nintendo reported selling 9.54 million Switch consoles. This includes 2.74 million original models, 5.07 million OLED units, and 1.73 million Switch Lite devices. However, that's a noteworthy 30.6% drop in sales compared to the same period last year. Software sales also faced challenges, declining by 24.4%.
Among the recent game releases this fiscal year, Super Mario Party Jamboree was a standout, moving 6.17 million units. Other popular titles included The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom with 3.91 million sales and Mario & Luigi: Brothership, tallying 1.84 million units sold.
As for the financials, Nintendo's net sales hit 956.2 billion yen (approximately $6.19 billion), reflecting a 31.4% decrease year over year. The company reported an operating profit of 247.5 billion yen (around $2.6 billion) and an ordinary profit of 327.1 billion yen (about $2.11 billion). After all deductions, the net profit stood at 237.1 billion yen (around $1.53 billion).
Launched back in March 2017, the Nintendo Switch has seen remarkable success. By the end of 2022, it became the third best-selling console of all time, surpassing iconic systems like the Sony PlayStation 4 and the Nintendo Game Boy/Game Boy Color. It now sits just behind the PlayStation 2 and the Nintendo DS.
In an exciting development, Nintendo has introduced the Switch 2, unveiling the system on January 16. The trailer suggests a bigger console with an enhanced kickstand for better support and adjustable angles. This new system will accommodate both physical and digital Switch games, in addition to exclusive titles for the Switch 2. Further details are expected during the Nintendo Direct presentation on April 2, 2025.
