New Stage Play Run for Sazae-san
The popular Sazae-san stage play is making its return! The official website revealed that a new performance will take place in Tokyo at the Meijiza theater from June 5-17, followed by a run in Osaka at the Shin Kabuki-za theater from July 5-8.

Background of the Play
This upcoming production is a continuation of the 2019 stage play, which celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Sazae-san anime adaptation. The story takes place 10 years after the anime's timeline, and the previous run enjoyed successful performances in Tokyo and Fukuoka.
A sequel stage play was held from January to February 2022 in Tokyo, further expanding the beloved story.
Returning Cast and Crew
The new stage play will see the return of:
- Takahiro Tamura as director and scriptwriter
- Norika Fujiwara reprising her role as Sazae
- Shingo Katsurayama as Sazae's husband Masuo
- Keiko Takahashi as Sazae's mother Fune
- Ken Matsudaira as Sazae's father Namihei
Additionally:
- Naoya Kusakawa and Yūsuke Satō will double cast as Katsuo Isono
- Honoka Hirao as Wakame Isono
- Shoma Fujishiro and Ko Matsuzaki (double cast) as Tarao Fuguta
- Toshiya Sakai as Tama
About Sazae-san
The anime adaptation of Machiko Hasegawa's classic Sazae-san manga first aired in October 1969 and consistently ranks as one of the top animated series in Japan. In 2013, it was officially recognized by Guinness World Records as the longest-running animated series, a title that was extended in 2019.
