Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment have announced a special screening of Mamoru Hosoda's acclaimed anime film, The Boy and The Beast, in select U.S. theaters. This one-day-only event will take place on August 18, featuring the film in Japanese with English subtitles.

North American Release and Distribution
GKIDS has acquired the North American distribution rights for several of Hosoda's beloved films, including:
- The Girl Who Leapt Through Time
- Summer Wars
- Wolf Children
- The Boy and The Beast
Summer Wars and Wolf Children joined GKIDS' catalog last year, while The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and The Boy and The Beast are set to be released in theaters and on home video this year.
Box Office Success in Japan
The Boy and The Beast made a strong debut, opening at #1 in Japan's box office in July 2015. It went on to surpass the earnings of Hosoda's previous hit, Wolf Children, becoming the second-highest grossing domestic film in Japan for that year.
U.S. Theatrical Release
Funimation brought the film to U.S. theaters in March 2016. The story follows Kyuta, a young orphan from Shibuya, who stumbles into a fantastical world of beasts. There, he is taken in by Kumatetsu, a gruff warrior beast. Despite their bickering, they form a bond as mentor and apprentice. When darkness threatens both worlds, their partnership is put to the ultimate test.
About the Film
Hosoda, known for Summer Wars and Wolf Children, directed and scripted The Boy and The Beast. It marked his return to filmmaking after a hiatus since 2012, when his studio, Studio Chizu, released Wolf Children. The soundtrack was scored by Masakatsu Takagi.
