Drossel Meyers Announces End of Kaiju Manga Adaptation

On Sunday, Drossel Meyers shared some big news on X (formerly Twitter): Hirō Nakamichi will be wrapping up his manga adaptation of the board game Kaiju on the Earth: Vulcanus with its fourth volume.

This board game, originally designed by Masato Uesugi and directed by Noriaki Watanabe, throws players into a crisis management scenario. Teams of up to three take on the roles of a Japanese government team trying to halt a massive kaiju monster as it wreaks havoc on Tokyo. Players must juggle evacuating citizens, putting out fires, coordinating with the Japan Self-Defense Forces, and conducting research on the kaiju. A strategic balance is key, as launching attacks can defeat the monster, but players need to ensure they continually research for success.

Since its debut, Kaiju on the Earth series has seen a steady flow of expansions. The first game launched back in December 2019, followed by Kaiju on the Earth: Leviath in July 2020, and Kaiju on the Earth: Yggdrasus in September 2021.

Nakamichi's manga adaptation kicked off in December 2023, with the third volume scheduled for release by Shogakukan on February 12.

Before working on Kaiju, Nakamichi gained popularity with his After School Dice Club (Hōkago Saikoro Club) manga, which he serialized from March 2013 to June 2021. This beloved series led to an anime adaptation that aired in Japan starting October 2019, streamed by Funimation in English as well.
