Exciting News for Fans of Final Fantasy and Magic: The Gathering
A first look at your favorite Final Fantasy characters and moments is here, as the longest-running collectible card game prepares for its upcoming collaboration with Magic: The Gathering (MTG).
Announcement Highlights
On Wednesday, Japan Time, Wizards of the Coast revealed several cards from the MTG x Final Fantasy collaboration set. Their excitement was palpable as they shared that the new cards will span the vast universe of the FINAL FANTASY series, covering all 16 main games.

Card Mechanics and Highlights
The preview video highlighted 23 cards, introducing some exciting new mechanics:
- Four cards utilize the transform mechanic, first introduced in 2011's Innistrad
- A new card type: Enchantment Creature – Saga Elemental, which functions as both saga and creature cards

Collaboration and Set Symbols
Wizards of the Coast also unveiled three unique symbols for the collaboration set:
- Final Fantasy Set Code
- Final Fantasy Commander Set Code
- Final Fantasy Through the Ages Set Code These symbols feature the iconic Final Fantasy crystal, a Chocobo, and a Moogle.
Future Releases
In addition to the main set, three MTG x Final Fantasy Secret Lair sets were announced. These premium products will feature collaboration art on classic MTG cards, although further details are still pending.
Previous Announcements
The MTG and Final Fantasy collaboration was first announced in October 2022, with a teaser released two years later. The upcoming set is slated for release on June 13, 2025.
