40th Anniversary Screening of Vampire Hunter D Set for April

Anime fans, mark your calendars! The iconic Vampire Hunter D anime is returning to theaters for its 40th anniversary. Screenings will take place on April 9, 10, and 13, and the film will also stream later this year on HIDIVE and Shudder.

Trailer Release and Screening Details

On Thursday, HIDIVE, Shudder, and Iconic Events Releasing unveiled a trailer for the upcoming screenings. The film will be shown in over 500 theaters across the United States and Canada, featuring:

• Japanese audio with English subtitles on April 9
• English dub on April 10 and 13

The screenings will showcase a digitally remastered version produced by Sentai Filmworks in 2015.

About the Film

Vampire Hunter D first premiered in Japan in December 1985. The film follows the story of Doris Lang, who, after being chosen as a bride by Count Magnus Lee, hires a mysterious vampire hunter named D to escape her fate. The film's synopsis reads:

In the year 12,090 AD, technology and the supernatural have overtaken the world, leaving the land desolate and despotic. The remnants of humanity are scattered into small communities and live in fear of vampires who compose the ruling Nobility.

Tickets for the screenings went on sale on February 12.

The 40th anniversary screening is part of the AX Cinema Nights program, hosted by Iconic Events Releasing and Anime Expo. This event has previously featured a variety of anime classics, including:
