Butt Detective's Third Film Set to Premiere in Japan

Toei Animation has just released a 145-second "final trailer" for the upcoming film, Eiga Oshiri Tantei: Star and Moon (Butt Detective the Movie: Star and Moon). This marks the third feature film in the popular Butt Detective franchise, set to premiere in Japan on March 20.

Film Synopsis
The story kicks off when Koala requests Butt Detective to locate a missing relative who vanished during an idol contest. This leads him to Stardust Island, the venue of the contest and the base of the international criminal organization, Phantom Thief Academy, led by the elusive Phantom Thief G. Here, a secret plot known as the Dark Age Plan is underway.
To infiltrate Stardust Island, Butt Detective disguises himself as an idol and teams up with Phantom Thief U, who aims to reclaim the precious Moonlight Stone from Phantom Thief G. The narrative also promises to delve deeper into Brown's backstory.

The film features the theme song "Kawaiitte Magic" (Cuteness is Magic), performed by FRUITS ZIPPER.
The film is directed by Hiroki Shibata, who has previously directed the Butt Detective series, with the script penned by Shoji Yonemura. The music is composed by Hiroshi Takaki. Key production roles include:

Series Background
The Butt Detective television anime first premiered three episodes on NHK Educational in May 2018, followed by a new series of seven episodes in July 2018, and has since been airing weekly. The anime also saw the release of 13 new episodes in April 2021.
The franchise's first standalone film, Eiga Oshiri Tantei Shiriarty, debuted in March 2021, followed by the second film, Eiga Oshiri Tantei Saraba Itoshiki Aibō (Oshiri) yo, which opened earlier this year.
Franchise Success
The Oshiri Tantei series, published by Troll, has sold over 9 million copies since its inception in 2012. The franchise has expanded to include a stage musical and a Nintendo Switch game launched in November 2021.
