The 32nd issue of Akita Shoten's Weekly Shōnen Champion announced this Thursday that Itaru Bonnoki's popular manga, The Vampire Dies in No Time, will make a short-term comeback starting with the magazine's 39th issue, hitting shelves on August 28.
A Long Wait Comes to an End
Earlier this January, the magazine revealed that Bonnoki was preparing to resume serialization. Fans have been eagerly awaiting this return, especially after the creator shared some personal health struggles.
Creator's Health Challenges
In October 2023, Bonnoki disclosed that he had been diagnosed with ossification of the ligamentum flavum (OLF), a condition causing thickening of the spinal ligament, which can lead to nerve damage and spinal canal narrowing. He mentioned experiencing constant back pain for several months, and noted that surgery would be complicated due to the affected area.
Extended Hiatus
Bonnoki had already extended the manga's hiatus indefinitely in May 2023. The series had previously taken several breaks over the past few years, often due to the author's health issues. It was on a one-month break from March to April 2023, with plans to resume in May that year.
About the Manga
The Vampire Dies in No Time was launched in June 2015 and has since become a fan favorite. The 25th volume was published in May 2023 by Akita Shoten.
Anime Adaptation
The manga's anime adaptation premiered in October 2021, with Funimation streaming the series as it aired in Japan. The first season featured 12 episodes. A second season debuted in January 2023 and is currently available on Crunchyroll.
Looking Ahead
Fans are hopeful that the upcoming short-term publication will bring some relief and excitement, even as the creator continues to focus on his health.
