Viz Media announced on Monday a significant leadership change. Brad Woods, the current Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, will step into the role of President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Meanwhile, Ken Sasaki, the outgoing President and CEO, will move to a new position as Chairman and Executive Advisor.
Ken Sasaki’s Legacy at Viz Media
Sasaki has been a pivotal figure at Viz Media. Promoted to President and CEO in 2012, Sasaki initially joined the company in February 2008 as Vice President of Strategy and Business Development. During his tenure, he:

Brad Woods joined Viz Media in 2015 as Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) and rapidly rose through the ranks. His leadership has covered:

- Contributions to major projects like Viz Manga and other key initiatives.
Woods brings extensive experience from his previous roles:
- DreamWorks Animation, where he marketed films like Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda, and How To Train Your Dragon.

Viz Media’s Evolving Digital Strategy
As one of the industry leaders in global manga and anime distribution, Viz Media has been expanding its digital offerings. Notably, the company launched its Viz Manga app in May 2023. Key features include:
- Simultaneous English releases of manga titles from Shogakukan.
- A catalog of over 10,000 manga chapters, featuring works from Shogakukan and Shueisha.
- Affordable subscription plans at $1.99 per month, available exclusively in the United States and Canada.
This launch is part of Viz’s broader strategy to enhance accessibility to manga for Western audiences, supplementing its popular Shonen Jump service.
