Paid binge-read sessions for the webtoon My Daughter is a Zombie have skyrocketed following the release of its trailer, with figures increasing more than ninefold in just two weeks.
Webtoon Revival Sparks Excitement
Ahead of the Korean theatrical release of the live-action adaptation of My Daughter is a Zombie, fans are flocking back to the original webtoon. According to Naver WEBTOON, from May 21 to June 3 — right after the trailer dropped — paid binge-read sessions surged over nine times compared to the previous two weeks. Overall viewership also increased fivefold.
Binge-read allows users to enjoy all episodes for free within an hour after paying a fixed fee, making it popular among returning fans revisiting completed series.
Why the Series Is So Popular
My Daughter is a Zombie is loved for its unique mix of zombie horror, family humor, and emotional depth. Although the webtoon wrapped up five years ago, the upcoming film, set to premiere in Korean theaters on July 30, has reignited widespread interest.
The original webtoon, created by Yun-Chang Lee, was serialized on Naver WEBTOON from 2018 to 2020.
The Webtoon's Story
The story is set a year after a devastating zombie attack that claimed hundreds of thousands of lives. South Korea is declared zombie-free, but Jeonghwan harbors a secret: his daughter, Su-ah, is the last zombie on Earth. As her cravings and violent tendencies diminish, hope for her normal life grows — but keeping her secret is a constant challenge.
"One year after an unprecedented zombie attack that killed hundreds of thousands, South Korea has finally been declared zombie-free. But Jeonghwan holds a secret: his daughter is the last zombie left on earth.
